Bringing the Old Testament to Life for the Wayuu

At Bread of Hope, our mission is to equip and empower Indigenous believers to share the gospel and plant churches among the Wayuu people. One of the greatest barriers to biblical understanding among the Wayuu is literacy—many in the community rely on oral tradition rather than written text. That’s why we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Davar Audio Bibles to record the Old Testament in Wayuunaiki.

Last year marked a historic milestone for the Wayuu church with the completion of the full Bible translation in Wayuunaiki. For the first time, the entire Word of God was available in their heart language. However, with so many Wayuu believers relying on oral communication, having the Old Testament in audio form is crucial for deepening their understanding of Scripture and strengthening their faith.

Partnering for a Greater Impact

Earlier this year, God led us to partner with Davar Audio Bibles, who will be working alongside the Colombian Bible Society to produce a high-quality recording of the Old Testament. This project, expected to be completed by the end of 2025, will make God’s Word accessible to thousands of Wayuu speakers who may never have had the opportunity to read the Bible for themselves.

Through this initiative, entire families and communities will be able to listen to the story of creation, God’s faithfulness in Israel’s history, and prophetic messages pointing to Jesus Christ. Pastors and church leaders will have a powerful tool to disciple believers, and evangelists will be able to share the full counsel of God’s Word in a way that resonates deeply with their culture.

Last December, we hosted a fundraiser to help cover the costs of this project, and we have been encouraged by the generosity of those who believe in making Scripture accessible to all. With God’s provision and the dedication of our partners, we look forward to seeing lives transformed through the hearing of His Word.

We ask for your continued prayers as the recording process moves forward. Pray for clarity, accuracy, and for those who will one day hear these recordings—that their hearts would be drawn to Christ.
