Let the Word Be Heard: A Door God Has Opened Before Us

In 2009, a reluctant yes to a short-term trip to Maracaibo opened a door we never expected. Mark had no long-term plan, only a willingness to follow where God was leading. On that first trip, God placed the Wayuu people on our hearts in a way that changed the trajectory of our lives. What began as a simple act of obedience became the beginning of a Gospel movement we could not have orchestrated ourselves. Through that open door, God led Bread of Hope to the Wayuu people and ignited a movement of the Gospel that continues to this day.

From the beginning, the greatest need among the Wayuu was clear: they needed God’s Word. Not simply physical help, but the life-giving truth of Scripture in the language of their hearts. Over the past fifteen years, we have watched God meet that need again and again. Today, Wayuu pastors and leaders are teaching the Scriptures. Churches are growing in Gospel clarity. Families are gathering to listen to the Bible together. Indigenous leaders are rising with bold faith and deep conviction.

And this year, something historic happened.
For the first time ever, the entire Bible, Old and New Testament, has been fully recorded in Wayuunaiki. The Word of God now exists in an audio form that the Wayuu people can listen to, learn from, and share in the way they learn best.

But this is only the beginning.

A New Door for 2026

As we look toward the coming year, God is opening new doors before us, doors that will allow the Wayuu church to continue growing toward mature discipleship, healthy leadership, and gospel-centered community transformation. Through our Let the Word Be Heard campaign, we are focusing on five key areas:

  1. Bringing Audio Scripture to More Families. With the Bible now recorded, we aim to distribute 100 Proclaimers, durable, solar-powered audio Bibles that allow communities to hear Scripture together in their homes and rancherías.
  1. Strengthening Indigenous Leadership. In 2026, our Sembradores Bible and Ministry Training Program enters a new chapter: It becomes fully indigenous-led. We will support a new group of Wayuu pastors and leaders through a two-year training cycle.
  1. Expanding the Health Program. After transforming several communities through local health volunteers, we are preparing to launch training in up to seven additional communities where medical help remains scarce.
  1. Increasing Field Visits and Pastoral Support. Regular mentoring trips allow our staff to walk with emerging leaders, encourage healthy church practices, and strengthen local congregations.
  1. Supporting Community Development Projects. These ongoing projects open doors for relationships, discipleship, and gospel witness in areas that would otherwise remain unreached.

The Wayuu church is entering a season we have prayed for since the beginning: a season marked by discipleship, maturity, and indigenous leadership.

But for the Word to be heard and lived, we must continue to place Scripture, training, and support directly in the hands of Wayuu believers who are now leading the way.

Your partnership makes this possible.

This Christmas, we invite you to consider giving toward our 2026 goals prayerfully.

Your generosity will place God’s Word in Wayuu homes, equip local leaders, expand health and discipleship initiatives, and strengthen the churches rising from within.

Will you help us walk through the next open door?
